the Patient Procedure

TREATMENT AGREEMENT

Obesity surgery in paris

BECOME AN ACTOR IN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS

This treatment agreement ensures the long-term success of the operation as the patient is no longer a passive spectator but an actor in the ensuing weight loss.

There is an agreement on dietary discipline. Food quantities are less as satiety is more rapid for the same quantity of food. There is also an agreement about resuming a physical activity (bicycle, swimming, aquagym, aquabike, etc.).

BEFORE SURGERY

During the initial consultation, the surgeon defines:

  • The Body Mass Index (BMI) (weight / height²)
  • The ideal weight to be achieved in order to fix a specific target
    Previous diets
  • Medical history
  • Any comorbidity factors (hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnoea, osteoarthritis, coronary heart disease, etc.)

THE SURGERY

On admission, the patient signs the consent forms

Verification of the biological examinations by the nurse

AFTER SURGERY

Just after obesity surgery, the patient is usually in good general form. An x-ray of the stomach (contrast) may be done to view the surgical montage and to check for very rare anomalies.

In the large majority of cases, liquids can be administered (water, coffee, tea), and 2 to 3 hours later the surgeon will usually authorise a semi-liquid meal (soup, yoghurt, fruit compote). Depending on their condition, 10% of patients can go home the day after surgery.

PREVENTION OF COMPLICATIONS

Vomiting is entirely avoidable for many patients by following some simple rules:

  • Eat slowly
  • Chew well for 30 seconds
  • Wait 30 seconds between each mouthful
  • Mouthfuls should not be larger than the diameter of the inflated band
  • Do not eat and drink at the same time
